Adult Basic Education

 

The Bethel Regional Adult Basic Education Program offers GED preparation and instruction in reading, writing and math. In 2011, there were 71 GED graduates and thousands of tutoring hours provided.
Services offered:
1. GED Program: The Bethel Regional ABE Program is an Official GED Testing Center. The GED program offers an accredited high school diploma. An individualized study plan is developed for each student to prepare for GED testing. There are five GED tests:
Language Arts, Writing
Language Arts, Reading
Social Studies
Science
Mathematics
2. Adult Basic Education: The Bethel Regional ABE program offers basic academic skill building in math, reading and writing for the purpose of earning a GED, getting or keeping a job, or entering college or training.
3. Assessments: The Bethel Regional ABE Program offers assessment testing weekly. We administer the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE). Tutoring is provided, if needed. Assessment tests are required for GED students and often are needed for vocational training and employment.
4. 2011-12 Classes: Small group classes in Math, Social Studies, Writing and Reading are held on Monday through Thursday each week. Students can join a class after registering and taking assessment tests.
All services are free of charge.
The Bethel Regional ABE Program operates as a partnership between AVCP, Inc. and UAF-Kuskowkim Campus.. People who live in a village may contact either organization to access services. Some villages have an ABE program. Call to find out about your village.

The Bethel Regional ABE Center is open from September to May of each year; students may enroll at any time during the year, but the earlier in the year, the better.
